Display Wizard - 250 word essay
Leeds Arts University is highly regarded as one of the top universities for the arts. The Guardian has named it the Best University for Design and Crafts within the whole of the UK, and it has won 'Best Facilities' at the WhatUni awards twice, as well as coming second twice. The quality of the university is reflected through its community of students, as well as the work that is produced by them. For this and many other reasons, it can be considered 'gold standard'. I have chosen to focus on this aspect to create my designs, reflecting the quality of the university by using gold fabric within the designs. The use of photography ties into the understated overall design and the gold theme also reflects the face of the brand new extension of the university building, which features gold elements and murals. The rest of the displays allow the gold fabric to be the primary focus, by keeping to a monochrome colour scheme. This helps to keep the designs simple and classy. The displays also respect the branding used by Leeds Arts University, implementing their iconic mosaic logo as well as the typeface Garamond, which is used by the university across their website and promotional materials. I have chosen to use the selling points of these awards won by the university, as it reinforces the idea of the university being 'gold standard'. The gold theme here is also subliminally supported by the associations with awards and trophies, which are typically expected to be gold too.
