Alongside the rest of the exhibition designs, the curation and organisation needed to be sorted out. We had established earlier in the project that we were working from the postcode map of Leeds and therefore using the postcodes to section the prints off.
Visually, the library space needed more. We thought that just using the walls was potentially limiting as only 4 walls were assigned to fit in over 100 prints. To solve this problem we proposed that temporary, non intrusive walls be erected in the library space in order to provide more wall space for prints to be hung and organised. One issue with this was the production and erection of the walls and health and safety concerns. We proposed that the mesh could be the wall and hung from the ceiling so the wall would be see through and could see prints on both sides. We also created a mock up for other versions, where temporary stud walls could be built and covered in mesh.
In addition to this we also wanted a decorative element. The windows in the space already had mesh over them for prints to be fixed to, but we wanted to add our own in. We found 2 types of mesh, chicken wire and sections of copper mesh. The chicken wire was diamond shaped, however the diamonds could turned into squares if the wire was stretched. Given our colour scheme the copper mesh was perfect for the project, but was more on the pricier side so the budget may not allow for this extra element.
I think the addition of an extra wall(s) would add to the exhibition, giving extra wall space to hang the prints and also adding to the energy of the room. The mesh ties in perfectly to the theme of the exhibition and despite the added costs would add to the feel of the exhibition.
