An article I found very interesting was one written by an anxiety sufferer. I thought this article would be prudent reading giving my own struggle with anxiety and the author has relevant experience.
The way that the article was worded gave me some interesting phrases I could work with to create a piece of work. My favourite quote from the article was this:
ambient music is different: it can quiet your thoughts and the space in between each note allows you to experience your surroundings.
When thinking about how I could visually represent this quote I thought about space. This reminded me of a quote from Massimo Vignelli, which he wrote within his book the Vignelli Canon. In his section on white space he said this:
I often say that in typography the white space is more important than the black of the type. The white space on the printed page is the correspondent of space in architecture. The link between the space between each note and the space in typography is almost perfect, and I think I can create a piece of typographic work to represent ambient music, in particular, its use in anxiety alleviation and meditation. In my initial ideas post 3 of my ideas related to space in some way so I thought this would be the best idea to build upon and continue with.
