Exhibition: Branding

We have decided to call the exhibition 'Hue', as a variance on colour.

Logo
Seeing as the exhibition focuses on colour, we wanted to keep the logo fairly simple and let the colour in the advertising speak for itself.

I focused on logotype as the primary style for the exhibition as the colour will be the focus. Sketching down my initial ideas allowed me to explore a variety of options.

In the sketches above, some variations play on the idea of colour and shade within the logo.

I initially liked the rounded appearance of this logo (fig 3), but thought that the overall aesthetic appeared too childish as a logotype. I wanted to keep the rounded aspect in some respect but use a different typeface with a less childish appearance.

I also liked the combination of a logotype enclosed within a circle as in fig 4, however the overall appearance reminds me of the Tate tyepface. Also I think the logo would work best as pure type without another element as the colours will be the primary focus.

It was decided that the logo to be used for the exhibition would be the one below (fig 5). I chose to use Rift Soft as the typeface, due to the rounded appearance of the letters. By varying the colour of each letter by using tints of black so the letters would appear to be fading in colour or hue. This ties into the theme of the exhibition.
