IDEA 1: advertising campaign for an energy company

For this idea I made use of the photos I had taken during my visual research over Christmas. The theme of my photos was 'focus', so I wanted to play on that in the campaign. I created a set of 2 posters, one with my lightbulb out of focus and one where it is a lot sharper. I chose E-on energy for the company and added phrases on the theme of focus too, this time relating them to energy prices. I thought the campaign could be progressed to potentially focus on students as energy prices are not always clear when first starting out living independently.

IDEA 2: infographic/ buying guide to lightbulbs

From my research I discovered that buying a bulb isn't as simple as many people think - there are many different parts to a bulb and these need to be considered when buying the appropriate one. My idea was to create a large scale guide to buying a a lightbulb laying out all the different components and the options available. I created a quick poster and mocked it up in context - on the floor of an aisle of a hardware store - in real life this would go in the lightbulb aisle in a place such as B&Q or Homebase.

CRIT:

- advertising campaign feels too limited and an obvious choice.
- packaging could include a rip off tab containing all information needed to repurchase a bulb.

While people liked my ideas as a whole they were most enthusiastic about the buying guide.
Ideas to progress included
- printing or mocking up onto wood/pallet/mdf
- use as point of sale
- interactive aspect (eg using actual bulbs that light up instead of pictures)
- also instead of pictures, create pictograms (isometric grid eg. Otl Aicher)
- could be used in hardware stores or home stores such as IKEA

So to progress I need to research point of sale designs and focus on creating the design for one. Printed poster will be my deliverable along with mock ups of it in context.
