deliverables: contact sheets and 5 a5 prints
For my 50 photos I decided to use focus as my constraint. After the bulb was wired up to a dimmer switch, I found that the filament in my lit bulb wasn't very bright but it was an interesting shape, unlike most standard bulbs. Experimenting with focus and different camera angles proved to be very successful, as the filament provided the focal feature. By blurring the focus, the odd shape of the filament became softer and more distorted, creating a bokeh like effect.
I liked this effect and applied to it to each different camera angle I took photos from. The filament in these photos changed according to the angle and created different shapes, for example an incomplete polygon when viewed from above, and a shape not unlike a crown when viewed front on.
Another feature I found interesting was the colours of the photos when the photos were blurred. Using the daylight white balance setting on my DSLR, the background was grey on screen and white in real life. I wanted to create more of a contrast between the background and focal feature which I think I did successfully. The blurred filament provided bright orange and yellow whereas the background was purple and grey, with the reflection of the light against the backdrop.
