Food Revival - 'Junk Food Project' Research

The Real Junk Food Project is a project that uses surplus food destined to be waste and turns it into meals that are accessible. The project is implemented in a range of Pay As You Feel concepts, which are "global and organic".
The Pay As You Feel principle works by allowing consumers to set the price of the goods they are buying and pay what they feel is suitable for the project. The Real Junk Food Project has implemented the strategy perfectly, as by providing food that otherwise would be wasted, they are feeding people for cheap as well as reducing waste.

TRJFP pride themselves on being able to:
  • Deliver food to benefit over 15,000 children and their families in Leeds and Bradford and support Fuel for School to deliver education packages about food and sustainability to schools
  • Operate our friendly Sharehouse - a food supermarket run on a pay as you feel basis
  • Support holiday hunger programmes across the city
  • Supply food to other Real Junk Food projects and pay as you feel cafes in Leeds
  • Operate a family friendly Freegan Box Project, which provides varied food, boxes for four for one week
  • Run environmentally friendly event catering
The saving money aspect of TRJFP is another benefit of the project, as the use of foodbanks has increased fourfold since 2012. The increasing use of the food banks shows the lack of money households have to spend on food so the initiative benefits people of lesser means as well as the environment.
