“Lina’s design was technically excellent as well as clearly highlighting her passion for the University. The design is modern and energetic, showcasing the best aspects of both Coventry and the University”
"In her essay Lina stressed how her design was inspired by the importance of individuality, which she feels is a key part of her experience studying at Coventry University."
The designs of the previous winners of the competition have really surprised me. In my opinion, I thought that the 3rd prize winner for 2016/17 was the best designed and presented. The solid and cohesive colour scheme coupled with the casual multiple poster style and bold text immediately caught my eye. The standing banner showcases that 95% of the students at the university had gone on to be in employment which is a key factor when deciding which university to go to. As well as this, a quote has been used to reinforce the personality of the students coming through.
The 1st prize winner for 2016/17 also really surprised me, but in a bad way. While there is a strong use of symbolism in the designs (bees for the Blackburn crest and hexagons for cohesion within the uni), the design is really poor and lacks precision or presentation. It is surprising to me that this design won first prize as it is not very well designed as the judges claimed. I think that the essay to back up this design must have been quite strong and well worded as I don't see another reason as to why this was the first winner. This has made me think that I should put a lot of effort into writing the back up essay as well as the design, as this was obviously a major contributing factor into this design winning the top prize.
