App redesign - design development

After my initial designs I decided that the direction the app was going in wasn't the direction I wanted. I wanted my app to look more professional so I decided to re evaluate the design and see how I could change it. To do this, I took the designs into Illustrator as I find the software easier to experiment with.

From the above experiments I decided that I would avoid any illustrations or patterns as in figure 1. While this was only an example of what the pattern could be, it seemed too intrusive and detracted away from the text on the screen. This was not good as the illustrations are only meant to be in the background. Figure 2 only features a gradient as the background, this still seemed too plain so I decided to expand upon this in the next experiments. Figure 3 looked more professional, especially the question for the quiz contained in the gradient section at the top of the screen, but something still wasn't right. In figure 4 I tried to rectify this by adding a similar section at the bottom of the screen, but reversing the arch of the shape. This suited the screen more, but this will still be adjusted depending on the icons that I end up adding. I like the addition of the black background, this makes the app seem more put together and separates the elements. I continued on to experiment more with a coloured gradient and a different page but didn't like the changes I made to this either. I decided to revert to my sketchbook and do some experimenting by hand as I feel I can do this better not on a screen.

In these drawings, I used the format of the successful experiments, with the gradient section at the top of the screen. In these drawings, I also differentiated the quiz from the navigation buttons by making the end of the navigation buttons completely rounded. This gives a clarity to the app by letting the user know which buttons will take you places within the app, and which are just options to answer the question. I also experimented more with the party profile page, instead of having a card, the whole screen will be the card and you can flick between them. This opens the page up more.
