In my second logo, I used a mountain with lines for shading, and overlaid an eagle over the mountains. In developments for this I experimented with the amount of lines in the mountains. I also changed the length of the lines, varying each line to add some difference into the "shading".
In these experiments, I thickened the weight of the lines, which balanced them against the thickness of the bird. I also rounded the edges of the stroke which softened the appearance of the mountains. Adding lines to the very top of the mountain looked too crowded so instead I removed them, and the lines from the first mountain in the drawing, as if the sun was falling onto them, to replicate how shadow would fall realistically. Adding back in the lines to the first mountain made the logo feel more balanced.
