Exhibition: Brief

Photography level 6 students Kim, Clare and Liv want to set up an exhibition.

Their initial thoughts are to create the exhibition under the theme of shape or colour.
Kim uses lots of colour within the stitching in her work, Clare uses bold colours and has a fine art style, and Liv photographs street art so uses natural and man made inspiration and colours, so they thought that colour would be a good theme to go with.
Shape was discussed, but we all came to the decision that colour would be a better theme, as it is more broad and more variety can be created under the topic.

The girls want the exhibition to be open to other students, not just photography students. This means an open call for submissions. An open call for submissions would mean that I will need to create advertising to be placed around uni, and also social media advertising to encourage a wider audience.

My role within would be to create branding, advertising and promotional materials for the exhibition, including social media and advertising within uni to invite more people to include their work. I also would like to be involved in the physical organisation of the exhibition, which will likely be held in April/May.

Considerations

Venue
Hyde Park Book Club
LS6 (I have contacts in Alia and Maria, friends who work there)
Brunswick

How and what (talk to event organisers) Kim/Clare/Liv
- how to put on the event
- pricing
- safety etc

Theme
The general theme will be colour, but do we need to define this theme even further?
- create a limitation (size, format etc)  NO
- given colours? (don't want too many entries of the same colour) ASSIGNED.

Extras
- music. Do we want live music? (Lydia/ Jasper's band) Or a playlist on the theme of colour
- food/ drinks  could have limited beers/prosecco (licence provided). bars in some places

Advertising
- What do we want to say/ get across
- Who do we want to submit and how can we get them to submit?

Plan of Action
We are meeting as a group on 12/03 at 1pm to discuss initial ideas. In this meeting I want to answer all questions above, and discuss and define a design direction for the branding and advertising of the exhibition. In this meeting I also need to create the brief and assign roles to all of the participants.

Meeting
name - hue, chroma, tint

colours - primary (3-5 colours)
each wall a single colour

group email to assign colours/give extra details.

venue
- The Brunswick (clean, open, good bar)
- LS6 (good bar, but darker with less light and not as good quality walls)

questions raised
- people print own work?
- can we get funding? Student union
- size limitations (minimum and maximum sizes)

My part
- Advertising around uni and social media advertising. in 2 parts. initial open call for submissions/ reminders or colour requests.
- design minimalist or use colours? Bright and eyecatching.
- Logo clean and simple so as to not distract from the colours in the advertising.
- Additional leaflets? and name tags with name/piece name
- Invitations (personalised to send to collectives eg colours may vary, girl gang etc)
