Final Exhibition Piece

I chose screen printing as my traditional print process for my final print. During the screen printing process I was able to create many versions of the print, some of which were successful, some of which were full of mistakes.
Documented below are all the versions of the print - some show clearly the misalignment of some of the prints and some have a lot of texture on them. These are the prints that were made towards the end of the process, where some of the black ink had dried onto the screen, creating this patchy texture. On some of the prints this was successful as it looked more handmade, similar to a poster made for an actual process.

For some prints I used cartridge paper, and others I used newsprint - to see which type of paper would work the best with my print. The newsprint was harder to work with as the paper was so thin and the thick layers of ink made the paper wrinkle. Also the vacuum of the printing table didn't work as well with the thinner paper, making the print stick to the underside of the screen. An example of this is the print on the right above, the paper moved around under the screen between colours, leading to the black being printed on the wrong parts of the paper, and even the paper partly folded, making a crease over the print.

I wanted the print to be put into context so it would look more effective, so I created 2 placards out of MDF and wood - the MDF was cut to 320 x 440mm - so slightly bigger than the dimensions for A3 and a length of wood was cut for the handle of the placard and nailed to it.
