Studio Brief 2 - Typeface part 11 (final crit)

Our final crit was not used for us to improve upon our work but rather to form a basis for our project evaluation. I came up with 3 questions for my peers to answer and leave helpful feedback I could apply to my evaluation as well as future work.

. My research was based on the Art Deco movement. Do you think my typeface reflects my chosen adjective 'grand' and my inspiration well? Why?

Everybody who critiqued my work responded to my question positively. My specimen according to others uses appropriate and relevant colours, and has a very Great Gatsby feel to it.
My typeface is very representative of Art Deco - the impression it gives up is definitely grand. It works well in uppercase, gives it more power - makes it very luxurious.

2. Is there a feasible way of presenting my type specimen better than this?

One person really liked my typeface specimen due to its simplicity - the lack of 'frill' made my typeface stand out really well.
Others had some more advice on how to improve. One echoed my thoughts on using gold to make my type stand out. Another person felt my specimen was too modern and that I should instead study how posters of the era are designed, why they work well and present my specimen in this way.
One piece of advice was too join the features together in each letter.

3. Where do you think my typeface would work best in context?

Most people agreed, that my typeface would be perfect to brand a hotel. Another idea thinking more along my wavelength was that my typeface would work well on film posters/ on screen, and also look good in theatres.

Overall my feedback was positive. Most felt my typeface successfully portrayed my adjective as well as my research into Art Deco.
